Rooney Road Recycling Center (RRRC) is one of the only facilities in our region that accepts and knows how to properly handle household hazardous waste. In partnership with Orange Circle Consulting, we worked with RRRC to increase awareness about what household hazardous waste is, the importance of recycling it, and positioned them as the leader in protecting residents, communities, and our environment by safely recycling and disposing of household hazardous waste.

 

We reached out to residents in Jefferson County and Arvada residents in Adams county. Research confirmed an engaged community, one that is concerned about their homes and their environment. After establishing RRRC’s new brand based on customer feedback, we capitalized on customer interest during Covid-19 times, when people were home more, and had time to clean out potentially hazardous items. We sent surveys, built a new, streamlined and informative website, updated wayfinding and on-building signage, and developed several outreach campaign tactics that included a brochure and a social media toolkit for partnering jurisdictions, touting a “be a hero” concept. Visits to the facility during this time increased by 14% (the goal was a 5% increase.) We continue to work with RRRC to pull their new brand through all their marketing and communications materials.
